Denise and I spent a very enjoyable afternoon in the company of some of the UK’s best wedding and portrait photographers on Wednesday – my talented friends from MV. Thanks to horrific traffic throughout south east Essex we were a little bit later than most people arriving, which was good in a funny sort of way as we walked in to the gallery to a lovely reception.
In the rush to get everything ready for the Body, Movement and Dance exhibition at Made in Greenwich, one thing was always going to be a little late, simply because of the time it would take to have it manufactured ~ the catalogue.
It arrived on Tuesday afternoon and we decided to take a trip up to Greenwich on Wednesday to drop it in, see how preparations for this Friday’s opening were progressing, admire the other art in the exhibition and enjoy a fish finger sandwich at the nearby Coach and Horses!! Greenwich is a really lovely part of London with so much to see and do, the Cutty Sark, the National Maritime Museum, the Royal Observatory, the Queens House, the Old Royal Naval College, Greenwich Park, the O2 Arena, the market ~ it really is more than a day out!
In the exhibition I’m involved in I particularly love Sally McKay’s work and having spent time looking through her site and blog archives I hope I get to see more of it very soon. It’s incredibly inspirational to see someone with such a talent work across numerous mediums, painting, drawing, etching, sculpture ~ all beautiful.
The catalogue that we delivered has space at the back for comments and I really hope that people take the opportunity to let me know their thoughts. I will be going back tomorrow – with potentially some of my biggest professional critics, my colleagues from MV ~ a photographers collective that I am proud to be a part of. We’ve planned an afternoon in Greenwich to take in Ansel Adams and the Astronomy Photographer of the Year exhibitions and of course the Body, Movement and Dance exhibition. I’ll be interested ~ and slightly nervous ~ to see what they write! This will undoubtedly be closely followed by wine and beer (maybe one in each hand!)
My first post in my new blog! Some of you will know that Dancing in Light has been a labour of love for a little while now, which I thought had reached a crazy climax in November when I was awarded a Fellowship by the British Institute of Professional Photographers (BIPP) in Fine Art Portraiture. Little did I know at the start of the New Year that I would have five days to get together everything that was required to be a contributor in my first ever exhibition!
I have spent this week in a bit of a whirl. Monday saw me heading to London with my portfolio to meet with Irena at Made in Greenwich Gallery and Meeting Place to see whether my work might be suitable for inclusion in their first exhibition of the year, Dance & Movement. Two hours later and with an order for 22 pieces, I left on cloud 9, only to realise what an enormous task I had just taken on when I started to compile a list of the things I would need to do. Aside from the printing, mounting and framing to organise, there were also new business cards, stickers for the packaging and a catalogue to design. And a website. And now that I’m doing that I also need to remember to create a new Facebook page and Twitter account, all before Monday. Which sounds simple, but I need to drive to London later today to deliver my car load of frames and tomorrow I am at a wedding fair all day. Anyone want to keep me supplied with coffee overnight?!
